Identifying Dog Worms and their Symptoms
There are 5 different types of dog worms (internal parasites), which your dog can fall prey to. These are: heartworm, hookworm, roundworm, tapeworm and whipworm. As a dog owner, I recommend that you educate yourself on these worms in order to be able to recognize the symptoms if they should become evident in your dog.
Early worm detection is important because each type of dog worm requires a different form of treatment. You should also be aware of the fact that roundworm and hookworm are zoonotic, which means that these worms can be transmitted to humans. Some worm infestations may show little to no symptoms, whereas others can demonstrate severe symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhea and weight loss. Some dog worms can be seen by the naked eye while some cannot, therefore it is a good idea to ask your vet to perform a stool test for dog worms once a year.
Below you can find a list of common telltale symptoms of dog worm infestation, but keep in mind that these symptoms can also be a sign of a more serious problem. Either way, always consult a veterinarian whenever your dog is not "his usual self."
Dull coat
Weight loss
Appetite loss
Pot-bellied appearance
Coughing
Low energy level
Diarrhea
Vomiting
ROUNDWORMS (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina)
There are two types of Roundworm: Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonine. This is the most common type of dog worm, which affects the intestines and causes a pot-bellied appearance, mostly in puppies. There are a few ways puppies can become infected. Puppies are often infected before birth through the mother's uterus or through her milk. Puppies can also contract these worms through the ingestion of an infected animal (such as a rodent) or infected soil. Roundworm eggs can live in soil for many years. Once a puppy has ingested the infected soil, the eggs will hatch in his intestines, allowing the worms to live there and grow to adulthood. These adults will then produce more eggs.
Roundworms may be found in your dog's stool or vomit. They can grow to about 7 inches in length and have a spaghetti-like appearance. If this type of infestation is not detected early and is allowed a chance to develop, a buildup of worms in the intestines can cause an obstruction which may result in death. The symptoms of a severe infestation are: pot-belly appearance, diarrhea, vomiting, dull coat and weight loss.
Puppies should be dewormed every 2 weeks between 2 and 12 weeks of age, then monthly until he is 6 months old. Once your puppy has reached 6 months of age, he is less susceptible to contracting these worms but should continue yearly exams (or more often if considered high-risk).
Because Roundworm can be transmitted to humans, it is important to promote good hygiene, such as washing your hands regularly. Transmission of this dog worm to humans is usually through infected soil, which may be in your backyard or front lawn. Because the eggs are sticky and can easily adhere to hands or clothing, make sure children (and adults) wash their hands after playing outside (especially at a park or playground), after playing with the dog and before it's time to eat.
Treatment generally involves administering oral medication (dewormer) with follow-up fecal exams and a monthly heartworm medication. Try 1-800-PetMeds - America's Pet Health Resource
Prevent your dog from contracting roundworms by cleaning up fecal matter from the backyard as often as possible. Also, administering a heartworm medication such as HeartGard - Prescription Heartworm medication for Dogs & Cats is a good preventive. Do not mix wormers and consult your vet before giving your dog any medication. And last, but not least, always remember annual exams.
HOOKWORMS (Ancylostoma caninium)
Like Roundworm, Hookworm harbors in the intestines and can also be transmitted to humans. Hookworms can affect a dog at any age. It is a small, thin worm that hooks on to the intestinal wall and sucks the blood from its victim, which cause anemia and perhaps death. Due to their sharp teeth, they also cause bleeding in the intestines. Hookworms are not visible by the naked eye, therefore should be diagnosed by a vet. As with roundworm, hookworms also live and grow to adulthood in the intestines. They can also be transmitted to pups while in the mother's uterus or through her breast milk. A dog infected with hookworm would experience bloody stool, anemia, weight loss, pale gums, diarrhea and low energy level. Skin irritation can be a sign of a severe infestation.
Hookworms can be transmitted to humans by penetration of the skin, making it is possible for people to become infected simply by walking barefoot on infected soil. Hookworms, when transmitted to humans, can cause bleeding in the intestines along with abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Treatment usually consists of oral medications (dewormer), follow-up fecal exams, intravenous therapy and, if necessary, a blood transfusion. Hookworm infestation can kill your pup before the worm is ever detected. This is why it is so important to keep up with veterinary visits and exams.
TAPEWORMS (Dipylidium caninum)
The tapeworm gets its name from its long, flat, tape-like appearance. It is yet another parasite that affects the intestines, and like the roundworm, can be seen by the naked eye. Broke pieces of this dog worm would be found in the dog's fecal matter, which give it a rice-like appearance. These pieces of worm, although broken, can be found (still moving) around the dog's anus, in his stool or in his bed. Common symptoms of severe tapeworm infestation are abdominal pain, nervousness, severe itching around the anus, vomiting and weight loss.
Transmission to dogs is often caused by the ingestion of infected fleas. Although, humans are susceptible to being infected, a dog cannot transmit the dog worm to a human directly.
Regular over-the-counter deworming medication is not effective in eliminating this type of dog worm. A prescription dewormer is administered orally or by injection (praziquantel or epsiprantel). Consult your vet. Try 1-800-PetMeds - America's Pet Health Resource
WHIPWORMS (Trichuris vulpis)
Whipworms are long, thin (whip-shaped) dog worms that live in the dog's colon and are not visible by the naked eye. They attach themselves to the intestinal walls and feed off of them which, in turn, causes intestinal bleeding. Common symptoms of whipworm infestation are anemia, weight loss, flatulence, diarrhea with blood or mucus in the stool and lack of energy.
Although whipworms are the most difficult to eliminate among the families of dog worms, there is effective treatment available.
Whipworm is most effectively treated with fenbendazole (panacur), but febantel can also be used. Prescription medications are usually more effective. The treatment lasts for up to 5 days and is repeated after 3 weeks. After this treatment is finished, consult your vet about recommending a heartworm medication (containing milbemycin oxime) as a prophylactic to future infestation. Try 1-800-PetMeds - America's Pet Health Resource
Along with administering heartworm medication regularly, here are other ways to prevent reinfection:
Remove feces from backyard every few days
Clean yard with a safe cleaning agent (which kills worms)
Have feces tested every 6 months (more often if previously infected)
HEARTWORMS (Dirofilaria immitis)
Heartworm, although highly preventable, has the potential to be fatal, if contracted and left untreated.
Heartworm is spread by mosquitoes, mostly during the warm months when mosquitoes are most active. The mosquito becomes infected from biting dogs that carry the disease. These dog worms destroy the muscle and tissue of the heart, which can cause congestive heart failure and result in death. At this advanced stage, your dog would experience the typical signs of worms, such as pot-belly, coughing, lack of energy and dull coat.
Unfortunately, there are no symptoms of this disease until it has progressed to an advanced stage. For this reason, it is important to start your dog on a heartworm preventative such as HeartGard - Prescription Heartworm medication for Dogs & Cats at 6 months of age (after the first stage deworming process is complete. Check with your vet). Prevention is the best medicine.
General guidelines for dog worm prevention
When walking your dog in a park, picking up his feces as a standard practice not only prevents soil contamination, but also prevents the spread of many other dog diseases.
Regular visits to the vet and stool testing is a great way to prevent dog worms, as well as other illnesses. Twice-yearly worm testing is recommended. Make sure your dog is tested for worms before starting a heartworm preventative.
High-risk dogs should be screened more often (check with your vet).
Flea control is important because fleas are responsible for the spread of tapeworms.
Most puppies find feces quite appetizing. Keep your dog away from feces: his own as well as others. This is the most common form of worm infestation.
When cleaning your dog's area, such as his bed or crate, spray it with a strong saltwater solution and let dry. This aids in the prevention of worms.
Before traveling with your dog to obscure destinations, consult your vet of the potential risks to your dog.
Avoid exposing your dog to stray animals, birds and dead rodents, which often harbor immature tapeworms that can mature inside your dog.
Contact your vet if your dog displays any symptoms after receiving worm medication.

Best Sexual Position for Deep Penetration & Ultimate Satisfaction
In our series of best sexual positions we have presented various positions for a number of conditions and circumstances.
This article gives the absolutely best sexual position for those couples who wish the deepest penetration possible.
About Deep Penetration
The truth is a woman's anatomy (as is concerned with her uterus) is able to change shape depending on her position during the sexual act.
Some women are very interested in having as deep a penetration as possible (all the way to the cervix), and even if a man has a sufficiently long penis, the position assumed may not allow a deep enough penetration.
The Crab on Its Back
This position is the absolute best for deep penetration.
It is a man-on-top position, and it allows a great deal of facial contact of the partners.
It also gives the man the ability to thrust in robust manner, and the woman to return the thrusting with her own alternating movement.
The position is called the Crab on Its Back, and comes to us from both the Kama Sutra and the Arab classic, The Perfumed Garden.
How to Assume the Crab on Its Back Position
The woman will lie on her back on the bed, with her upper body only, and her buttocks placed near the edge of the bed, at the bottom corner.
Her legs are held open by the natural angle of the bed's edge, and her legs hanging over the bed with her feet on the floor.
The man stands or bends over her, and easily penetrates her. At this time, the woman bends her knees backwards towards her breast, and resembles a crab on its back.
The man is supporting himself with his hands, but his torso and the woman's are generally in very close contact.
The woman's torso is pinned down, but she is free to move pelvicly, and should do so as the man starts thrusting.
The man himself can have both or one leg on the floor to support himself, whatever is comfortable.
The woman can pull her legs back further to allow the deepest penetration, and the man should be careful in his thrusting not to cause pain. The woman can rest one or both of her calves on the man's shoulders.
The couple should move in a coordinated movement of thrust and repel for as long as possible. This will almost assure a synchronized orgasm if done correctly.
This position allows for maximum penetration and can be used by couples where the man may have only an average sized penis.
In this way, as the woman raises her hips off the bed, the man's penis is fully penetrated, and to a maximum extent, the actual size of the man's penis is not too important, as penetration is at a very deep level
Maximizing the Orgasm
In this position the orgasm will come to the woman with deep and intense spasm and contractions.
It is highly recommended that the man not withdrawn during his orgasm, but continue to thrust while the woman (or they both) come to deeply satisfying conclusion.
The Crab on Its Back is absolutely the best sexual position for the deepest penetration possible.

Garden Arches Can Enhance Your Garden's Design
Garden Arches are perfect for growing climbing plants such as roses or clematis up and over. An arch is a really useful piece of outdoor furniture that can add the wow factor to your gardens entrance or across a pathway. Designers often use a garden arch to separate one area of a garden from another, as you step through the arch you are leaving one area and entering another.
Location
When deciding where to place an arch in your garden you might want to consider using it at the entry point, patio or decking area. The arch will allow you to create a wonderful entrance that will look beautiful covered in blossoming climbing plants. An arch can also add a beautiful focal point to a path or walkway. Alternatively you may wish to consider placing an arch in a secluded area of your garden with a seat beneath so that you can sit and relax in a peaceful place sheltered from the weather. If you are considering using an arch to cover a seat or bench you may want to consider purchasing an arbour instead as this type of outdoor furniture is a sheltered garden seat.
Climbing plants
By growing climbing plants up and around a garden arch you can enhance your garden vertically. A garden arch also gives you the opportunity to try growing wonderful plants such as vines and climbing roses which will look glorious when in bloom. There are garden arches available with planters included in their structure meaning that you can place your arch anywhere in the garden and be able to grow climbing plants successfully.
Alternatively you can grow climbing fruit and vegetables up and around your garden arch such as grapes or beans. An arch is a great solid structure that can support a whole variety of plants.
My top tip - Don't put your garden arch in the shade if you are planning to grow climbing plants.
Materials
Garden arches are available in metal or timber. Metal arches can be either contemporary or classic in design depending on the style you prefer and are made from iron or coated steel. Metal garden arches are extremely durable and require little/no maintenance.
Wooden garden arches are more traditional and blend easily into your gardens backdrop as they are made from natural products. If you are planning to buy a wooden garden arch I advise you to purchase one that has been made from pressure treated timber.

Different Furniture Designs For Your Patio
The outdoor version of your household, the patio is the perfect place to rest and relax with friends and families when the weather is at its best. During the warm seasons, kids would love to play on the lush greens of a landscaped patio, while the grown ups are busy talking on a couch under a cooling shade of a tree.
You must pick the right furniture for your patio to maximize its use. Benches, chairs, sofas, tables, and a bar set are just some of the furniture normally found in a well-designed patio. Here are some tips on how to decide the best furniture for it.
Take The Weather Into Account
Choosing your furniture should depend on the weather, especially when you're in the rainy side of the world. The patio furniture that you pick out should be able to withstand the torments of heat and rain, while maintaining their individual quality.
Wooden furniture can withstand weather conditions but has to be treated regularly so that it won't rot. Wicker-made patio furniture is the best choice if you want it to blend with the colors of nature. Since these kinds of furniture have undergone treatment to become durable, it is the perfect solution for both rain and heat.
Marble furniture for your patio is durable but very expensive. Wrought iron, however, is an inexpensive solution. Not only is it durable, it is also well-known to last for a very long time with fear of corrosion or rusts.
Bar Patio
Before you choose furniture for your patio, you have to decide on a style first. The purpose of a patio is mostly for recreation and relaxations, so you better target those that can do just that. For starters, you can go for bar patio furniture that can accommodate your family and friends in a variety of activities. This includes partying, picnic, or even a coffee time during light conversations.
These furniture styles are mostly sold in aluminum that can withstand corrosion and use, and are mostly sold in sets than per piece. However, aluminum furniture speaks of a modern design, so if you want to look for those that can blend in with the surroundings, then you can go for wicker ones instead.
The basic bar-type furniture for patios includes a single high-table, with elevated chairs all around it - around three or four per set. Another variation includes a wooden bar counter that can hold food and drinks with equal facility, and high chairs at the front like those you need in pubs.

Basic Yard and Garden Tools List
This is a list of commonly used yard and garden tools. For those that maintain their own yard, you will probably say that all the tools listed are already in your garage or backyard shed. The list was developed for first time home owners wanting to care for their own lawn and garden. This should provide them with the basics- enough to begin normal lawn maintenance. On the other hand, it may be enough of a warning to help them decide that they do not want to tackle what seems to be never ending task of lawn care.
To prevent this article from sounding like an advertisement, I will not list any lawn and garden maintenance companies for those that prefer not to purchase all the necessary yard and garden tools. After factoring in the time, manual labor plus the cost of the tools, there will no doubt be some drop outs for the do it yourself lawn maintenance program.
For those of you that want to go join the club and go forward with caring for your lawn, you may notice none of the tools have related prices. There are several reasons. Mainly the prices can change at anytime and I simply cannot keep up with them all. You can get pricing while shopping for the tools. I recommend that you do that anyway.
Basic Yard and Garden Tools List
Gloves
Rake
Hoe
Shovel
Spade
Trowel
Pruner
Pruning Saw
Sprinkler
Garden Hose
Lawn Mower
Edger
Weedeater - gas or electric
Blower - gas or electric
Fertilizer Spreader
Wheelbarrow
Hedge Shears
Tank Sprayer
Hammer
Heavy Duty Extension Cord
Again, this is not an all inclusive list of yard and garden tools. It does cover most of the basic tools necessary for regular lawn maintenance. While many home owners have acquired a large number of other gardening tools over the years, the basic list here should be enough for the average startup home gardening and lawn care maintenance project.
The benefit of shopping for the tools yourself is that you can find the best prices. An additional benefit is that you will learn more about each tool and its respective manufacturer. So, review them all. Whether searching locally or on the internet, you will learn about quality and prices. Both will help you determine the right yard and garden tools for your lawn care needs.

Garden Offices - Work Space Or Play Room?
Garden offices are specially designed as a place to work from a person's garden. More and more home workers are choosing a dedicated work space in their garden to lessen the hassle of the daily drive to and from work. Timber built offices are continuing to grow in popularity because the style of building available is considerable, with custom-built garden offices a definite reality at very little extra cost compared to a standard model.
Some look a little more than a garden shed whilst others are extremely contemporary in style featuring lots of glass, folding doors etc. However, some of the most popular garden offices are the more traditional timber buildings that have the aesthetics of a summer-house with the functionality of a home office.
If you intend on using your garden office through the winter then make sure it is lined and insulated. Insulation will help regulate the temperature of the building while double glazed doors and windows will also make a big difference. The traditional appearance of timber garden offices will enhance your garden, will not upset the neighbours and can easily provide the required dedicated workspace. Traditional good looks combined with the use of super-thick, natural looking, modern timber cladding will ensure you stay warm, dry and cozy during the colder months and cooler during the summer.
Ready-to-ship timber buildings are pre-fabricated structures that are primarily made from timber frames for ease of assembly. Glass panels for windows, door frames and additional features are pre-constructed at the manufacturing plant ready to be delivered to your door.
As with other timber buildings, wooden garden offices need to be placed onto a concrete slab or brick plinth to ensure the sturdiness of the structure itself. Some people have opted for a flattened earth area to place their garden office, only to regret it later when the moisture sets in and ruins their beautiful home office... (not recommended!)
Thermally sound garden offices will add value to your home, encourage a relaxed lifestyle and become a feature which attracts buyers when it's time to sell. In the meantime you're free to use the structure to its full potential: guest room, additional study, hobby room, art studio, man cave or teen den, the choice is entirely yours.
For work or for play, a beautiful extra space in your garden will fulfill all of your needs. Whether you build your new work space alone or with an expert's help, in no time at all, you too will be enjoying your new garden room.

4 Easy Ways to Fertilize Your Lawn
Fertilizing is an important step towards a green and healthy lawn. Here are four simple ways to do it.
By Hand
If you have a very small lawn, this is the most cost saving method. However, it is actually quite difficult to apply dry fertilizer evenly with your hands. However, this method will still works if you have no other choice.
Make sure you wear gloves when applying the fertilizers. Walk backwards across the lawn as you throw the fertilizers onto the lawn in a sweeping fashion.
Use handheld hose-end applicator
This method is suitable for liquid based or water-soluble fertilizer. You need to purchase water-soluble fertilizer or fertilizer that is already in liquid form. Follow the instructions on the package label before applying the fertilizer.
It is difficult to apply water-soluble fertilizer evenly by hand. Furthermore, this method is not time-efficient if you have a relatively large lawn. However, this method is quite cheap and still works fine if your lawn is small.
Use a drop spreader
A drop spreader is a wheeled tool with an open-air container that allows a steady stream of fertilizer to drop to the ground as it is rolled. It is familiar sight in many home as it is cheap and relatively easy to use. It can fertilize your lawn quite evenly. However, a drop spreader can be difficult to maneuver in tight spots or in an area with lots of shrubs and trees. It is also not very time-efficient if you have a very large lawn.
Use a broadcast spreader
A broadcast spreader can throw fertilizer over a wider area and are particularly useful in large lawn. This type of spreader comes in two version - handheld or wheeled. Naturally, handheld version is meant for smaller areas while the wheeled version is popular for large lawn.
Broadcast spreader can be a little tricky to use in the beginning, as you need to maintain a steady walking speed during the fertilizing process. This is to ensure an even distribution of the fertilizers. Some broadcast spreaders come with side deflectors, which allow you get close to side-walks, beds or driveways without spreading material on these adjacent concrete areas.
Before using broadcast spreader, you have to find out how wide a band the spreader covered. Usually the instruction manual of the spread will have this information. In case this information is not available, you can simply add some fertilizers into the spread and run it over a short stretch of the lawn to find out.
Regardless of which method you choose, you should have a plan for fertilizing your lawn so that you will not forget. In the case of spreader, you may need to spend some time familiarizing and practicing yourself with it. Putting in a little extra effort today will ensure your lawn stay green and healthy for a long time.

The Garden Lawn Roller: Why?
A lawn roller is supposed to even out and flatten the grass to lay gross seeds or new sod. If you wish to have a professionally well maintained lawn, it is essential to buy a quality garden lawn roller which will give you a uniform garden that appears even and decorative. Different types of applications are available in the market for choosing lawn rollers. The lawn size and the use of the tool will guide you in the correct direction while purchasing the lawn roller. Look for the different kinds of garden rolling lawn tools and buy the one which is suitable for your particular needs.
Most of the rollers are similar in appearance and functions. Each of the rollers features a hollow cylinder which is designed to flatten everything in its path. The cylinder is made up of polyethylene, concrete, or steel. The steel lawn roller is the popular type used for smaller personal units. While comparing the rollers, you will notice that cylinders have different sized diameters depending upon the sizes of the lawn. Small applications measures 18-inches while bigger applications measures up to 24-inches. The cylinder with a large diameter covers the large area of the lawn. Smaller personal lawns may need small unit to serve the purpose.
After determining the size of the roller you need for your particular lawn, you have to decide whether you wish to buy a pull roller or a manual roller. Pull rollers are normally required for larger areas and can be attached to a vehicle or a tractor. Manual models are relatively cheap but they are not sufficient for larger areas. Compare the features and prices and select the roller that best suits your needs. Today, it is quite easy to buy the required type of lawn roller from the various available options by browsing the internet at the comfort of your home.
A lawn roller is also essential at times prior to seeding or overseeding your lawn. What's useful for overseeding is to run the roller over the yard several times to pad the grass down, and then you can go over the yard with a garden rake to remove all dead grass. When seeding for the first time, there's obviously a lot more steps needed prior to using your roller. Things like checking the PH level within your soil (which should be around 6 to 7.5). Next steps would be removing large rocks and debris. The roller comes in handy when you need to get rid of large clumps of dirt.

Earth Box Garden - Does the Earth Box Planter Work?
The Earth Box garden system has been around since 2001. It is a container gardening system, primarily targeting vegetable container gardens. Let's take a look at its features.
Size: It holds about 2 cubic feet of soil. This is plenty of room for a decent number of vegetable plants. For example, with that much room you could grow two tomato plants, or 8 medium size plants like pepper plants, broccoli, or cabbage. For smaller plants like peas or beans you could grow 16 plants in one container. Other commonly planted vegetables include artichokes, strawberries, and squash. It works great as an herb garden, and obviously could be used as a flower container as well. The size is perfect for a patio or balcony.
Self Watering: The system has a built in reservoir for holding the water for the garden. With this system it is supposed to be self watering, as long as you keep the watering reservoir of the Earth Box topped off.
Mobile: There is an optional caster set for this garden container. That is a good idea, because with 2 cubic feet of soil, and the water in the reservoir the planter can get quite heavy, and if you need to move it the weight would be a problem without some sort of wheels. This allows you to easily put it in a place where it can get the required six to eight hours of sunlight every day.
Staking System: Since the Earth Box is marketed as a vegetable growing system, some of the most popular types of garden plants like tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers and other vines will need some type of staking system. There is an optional staking system that you can buy that maintains the stability of the system, since staking directly into the container itself would make it prone to tipping over.
Weed control: The Earth Box system includes a soil cover that is intended to help maintain moisture while keeping weeds down and soil born pests at bay.
There are a few more things about watering and fertilization you need to know to make the Earth Box as productive as possible...

Garden Augers in Your Garden
You are probably familiar with drills for metal and wood but are probably not as familiar with the soil drills known as garden augers. These valuable devices stand out in the ranks of specialty garden tools for the quick job they will make of many often encountered outdoor jobs.
You easily can find garden augers in a broad range of sizes. The biggest are intended for rapidly planting trees and even telephone poles. The small ones are for garden use, drilling smaller holes most for properly planting bulbs, seeds and smaller plants.
All garden augers will need a source of rotating power to use. For a very small auger this may be a hand driven drilling device. For the biggest garden augers a very powerful force is required such as from a tractor drive shaft. The most popular small sizes of garden augers are intended to work with variable speed electric hand drills.
Most garden augers are not intended to work in highly compacted dry, very rocky soil or gravel but in already cultivated soil an auger can greatly accelerate a variety of tasks.
Augers are generally used for all kinds of planting in home gardens. The very largest of augers require heavy duty motors to be effective but they are the only way to go when you have a big planting job. Some of these can drill holes many feet deep and six inches or more in diameter.
These big augers are also popular for placing fence posts. They turn a slow and back-breaking job into a very fast exercise. Only the hardiest of fence builders would consider digging fence post holes by hand when appropriate augers are readily available at most tool rental shops for very reasonable prices.
A really quick way to plant spring and summer bulbs in addition to many bedding plants and seedlings to use the auger to create the correct sized hole then place the seeds, bulbs or plants. The very popular garden augers varying from about three inches on down to under two inches are just right for this kind of job. You'll need a small, variable speed drill to power the auger and it can make holes from a few inches up to two feet deep to make really quick work of planting.
The things you can do with garden augers doesn't stop with planting though. Another great use is remove the roots of weeds that have long roots going deep into the ground and are extremely difficult to get out with other common garden tools.
Bushes and trees, in particular older and established trees and bushes, need regular deep fertilizing, aeration and watering. Many deep bores drilled under these plants will deliver nutrients, water and life-giving oxygen to the roots and will often bring back life and vitality to older plants. Use your garden auger to drill multiple deep holes under the trees or shrubs before applying fertilizer and then watering.
Any job that requires drilling a hole into the ground is probably a candidate for employing a garden auger. For example, you sometimes want to run PCV irrigation pipes under an obstacle including sidewalks or foundations. Outdoor electrical wiring is another obvious job for a garden auger.
My observation is that you should always buy from a recognized manufacturer. I've had great success with the Yard Butler Company of San Diego, California. This company uses tool grade steel making their augers, and used with care will not fail the first time you use them. Yard Butler has been manufacturing specialty gardening tools for over half a century and has earned an enviable regard among gardeners for building better tools.
I suggest you avoid purchasing the least expensive augers such as those mass produced in China and sold by the large garden and home supply chain companies. My experience shows that they instantly bend or break and end up costing more in the long run. Treated with care a quality garden auger will last for many years and prove a real time saver in your garden and around the house.

Garden Shed Plans - Building a Garden Shed
Building a garden shed requires but the basic carpentry skills and a keen adherence to the plans. What plans? Well there are various designs available to suit all tastes and styles, so you'll never be short of choice particularly when you have access to the internet where you can download garden shed plans...many for free.
Garden sheds are becoming more and more popular since new people are interested in the idea of taking gardening as a hobby, which requires a shed for tools, for supplies and for general storage. When looking for plans and for materials, one should be certain on where exactly the shed is to go and how they want it designed.
At the outset you need to set a budget and stick to it.
With the use of a well designed garden shed plan, anyone can build their own garden shed. Cost effective and practical, it provides an alternative for those time-consuming, mad to assemble nightmares that never seem to quite go to plan when you decide that you can build it off the cuff..big mistake.
There are so many garden shed plans available now ranging from the bog standard common or garden(forgive the pun) to more elaborate structures which can even provide an area of tranquility away from the rush of a busy house and lifestyle.
If your main priority is to store things, or create a 'den' for the kids, then you may be quite happy to choose a standard design shed.
If you want something more elaborate then you can go for a more upscale design..the choice is yours. By choosing this option, not only will you have built your shed, but you'll have the satisfaction of having designed it also.
Whatever your motivation or need for a shed you must carry out research first and decide how elaborate or standard you want your shed to be.
The choice is yours and your first starting point is the internet to see plans, designs and pictures to help you along the way to creating your own shed and saving a shedload (forgive pun again) of money.

How To Spruce Up Your Patio
Tired of the same boring patio? Why not give it a makeover? Here are some tips that you can use in sprucing up your patio:
Fill it up with chairs
One way of upgrading the appearance of your patio is through the addition of chairs. Choose high-quality chairs like Adirondack rocking chairs or Amish-made rocking chairs made from the finest hard wood. These chairs will provide you with the comfort and relaxation you need while staying in your patio. Also, when choosing a rocking chair, keep in mind the type of material used. Make sure that the wood used in the construction of the rocking chair is weather-resistant and sturdy. If you're not a fan of chairs, maybe you should buy a hammock instead. It is still comfortable to chill in, pleasant to look at, and inexpensive to purchase. Also, like the rocking chair, the hammock sways.
Put a cute tiny table
Where there are chairs, there are at least one table. Add a cute tiny table that is made preferably from the same type of wood material as the chairs. Matching chairs and tables will certainly add up to the flair of your patio. Choose a table that is simple yet stylish. Like the chairs, your table must be weather-resistant since it will be staying outdoors for a long time. The table is a good spot to place your cold drinks or afternoon snacks while you're enjoying a little sun outside the house. The table is certainly a good addition to your patio!
Buy an outdoor whirlpool bathtub.
Why not purchase your very own whirlpool bathtub? You will have the chance to experience the soothing sensation provided by the whirlpool effects of the water. It is recommended for people who are stressed by work or school because it relaxes the muscles and cleanses the skin. Since the tub is quite spacious, you can also enjoy it with your friends. You can catch up on the latest Hollywood gossips and the recent prime-time soap episodes while eliminating those unwanted dirt and dead cells off your bodies. Now that is relaxation!
Add some useful gadgets and pretty accessories.
Decorate your patio with some useful gadgets. Add outdoor heaters or fireplaces to add warmth in your patio during cold weathers. If you want, you can also add a mosquito-inhibitor or an insect-control unit that keeps insects and other pests away from your place. For an added personal touch, you can also put in some accessories like decorative planters, wall fountains, garden bells, and outdoor umbrellas.

How to Erect a Garden Fence
New fencing can do wonders to improve the look of your garden, as well as creating privacy and security. There are several types of fences, but the wooden ones remain the most popular and economical. Here is some advice on planning and erecting a garden fence.
When planning a new or replacement boundary, you should decide if you are going to employ a tradesman or do some DIY yourself. But first, you should talk to your neighbours and establish who is responsible for the boundary. The standard height of most fences is 6 foot, so if you plan on increasing the height of a boundary to more than this, you may need to obtain planning permission and should seek advice from your Local Council or Planning Authority.
The standard width of panels is 6 feet and posts can vary from 75 mm to 100 mm. When measuring up, deduct 2 inches from each fence post to allow for where the panels slot in. Once you have taken measurements, you can then determine the number of panels and posts required. Where a fence will be resting on soil or grass, it is recommended that a concrete gravel board is used to stop the wood rotting. These are 1 foot high, so 5 foot fencing panels would be required in addition to make a 6 foot fence.
Concrete fencing posts are designed so that the wood panels slot into the edge without any fixings. Timber posts may have the same feature, or they can be a plain wooden post which should be attached to the panels with brackets.
Building a fence could involve digging holes and mixing concrete. However, a simple fence can be created without any of this hard labour! Wooden fence posts may be secured to soft ground with metal spikes or to a hard surface with bolt down post supports. The panels should be secured to the posts with brackets.
Whilst the Do-It-Yourself option could save you money, employing a professional fencing contractor can make life easier. They would remove your old fence and dispose of it, measure accurately and advise on the best type of fence for your needs. As they buy materials in bulk or may make their own panels, you could even find that they are cheaper than buying fencing from a DIY store.
